Couple of sketchs
Natural light is key in this project. It is essential that dancers have natural light. These sketches show the natural light cast from the windows. They also show the complicated roof design with skylights that face south. This will bring extra light into the studios.
Model
This model helped me get to grips with the space. It also helped with the detail of how the new internal walls meet the original walls and also how to make the most of the architecturally beautiful windows.
Crit Boards
These are the boards for the crit on Feb 3rd. At this point I knew I wanted to do a dance studio but I was still looking at the design and how I would fit the privacy / mystery aspect in to my design.
I liked the idea of public and private sections within the building and also I wanted public to get the sense of movement but not actually see the dancers moving.

Booked a visit to London to visit the Siobhan Davies Dance Studios and also the Laban Studios.
Video of Siobhan Davies and Sarah Wigglesworth explaining the reasons behind the design.

Initial sketches and thoughts:- creating a privacy barrier for visitors so dancers can practice in private. This privacy barrier will be located on the mezzanine level and will have small translucent openings so the public can see the silhouettes of the dancers. Its enough to just see the movement of dance.
